MY STORY

I started writing poetry when I felt the spark of true love for the first time. I wrote in a $5 journal I had laying around. The few pages of poems were written by hand until I came across typewriter poetry, and I instantly knew it was meant for me. My first typewriter was a 1955 Royal. I named her "Roy" and wrote the majority of my first published book, "Buddha's Baby" with those keys. After almost 2 years, I decided to pass it on to a fellow poet and purchase a family heirloom, 19th-century Remington Rand, that I now type all of my work on. There's something special about the present-moment-ness that a typewriter naturally provides a poet. While you can technically correct your mistakes, there's a unique beauty behind improperly typing-it's purely human. I bring my typewriter in its original case everywhere I go; mainly in the western mountains. Ever since I wrote my first book via typewriter, the art of poetry has expanded my view and understanding of life in ways that can only be described as celestial.
